Text | #1. Elizabeth Garrett "Gee Gee" Roth, 89, of
Monett, died yesterday, December 18, at her home following a long illness. Mrs. Roth was born September 14, 1911, in St. Clair County, the daughter of first generation Swiss parents, John and Ruth (Neuenschwander) Klass. She attended the one-room Valley Center School in St. Clair County through the eighth grade and graduated from high school in California, Missouri, in 1929, where she was a scholar-athlete and All-Star basketball player. She married Kelly Andrew Garrett on July 22, 1939, and he preceded her in death February 13, 1954. Together they operated a drug store in Sikeston, the Mt. Vernon Greenhouse, and a florist shop in Monett. Following his death, she worked as a medical secretary for Dr. F. L. Edwards and for Dr. Sergio Cruz in Monett, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monett, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as an elder. She was a charter member of P. E. O. Chapter KW. She married John Henry Roth on October 2, 1976, in Jefferson City. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Monett with Rev. Walter Hamer officiating. Burial will be in Monett IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home of Monett. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, December 21, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church. Elizabeth Garrett "Gee Gee" Roth Services for Elizabeth Garrett "Gee Gee" Roth, 89, of Monett, who died December 18, were held at 11:30 a.m. December 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Monett with Rev. Walt Hamer officiating. Music was provided by soloist Dale Sullens who sang The Lord's Prayer and the congregation which sang Now The Day Is Over and Amazing Grace. Organist was Marjorie Caldwell. Casket bearers were Travis Ash, K. C. Caldwell, Jack Kelley, Kevin Norris, Ron Overeem, and Carr Woods. Honorary casket bearers were Wilmer Bray, Samuel Jones, Dean Kee, Don McCormick, Wendell Nelson, Amos Neuenschwander, and David Whitlock. Burial was in Monett IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home of Monett. |
