Text | Phoebe Doris Rose, age 97, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011, in St. John’s Hospital in Cassville. She was born March 29, 1914, at Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ida Goodall. On December 10, 1935, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Rose who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were one son, Dallas Rose; two sisters and three brothers. Surviving are her daughter, LaRoyce Arnold and her husband, Jerry, of Shell Knob, Missouri, two granddaughters, Patricia Wilkens of Florence, Alabama and Barbara Arnold of Aurora, Missouri and a great granddaughter, Emily Shipp of Florence, Alabama. Phoebe lived at Mapleton, Iowa until 2006, when she moved to Shell Knob to be close to her daughter and spent the last four years at the Red Rose Inn in Cassville. She taught in a country school after graduating from the Normal School at Onawa, Iowa. She was active in the Castana Thursday Club and the UMW of the St. John’s Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa, where she was a life-long member. She was also a long time member of the Royal Neighbors. She will be remembered for her pies and the rugs she continued to make until her death. Memorials in memory of Phoebe may be made to St. John’s Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa or the Shell Knob Senior Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mapleton, Iowa. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob, Missouri. |
