Text | A two-car automobile accident on Hwy. NN, approximately six miles southwest of Washburn last Thursday evening at 5:50 p.m., has claimed the lives of two
rural Washburn residents, Mr. and Mrs. Lemma Rose. Mrs. Edna Rose 74, was fatally injured in the crash and was dead on arrival at South Barry County Hospital. Lemma Rose, 77, was critically injured in the crash, and died at 9:50 a.m. Monday at St. John's Hospital in Springfield where he was taken following the accident. Mrs. Rose was a passenger in a 1965 model coach operated by her husband, according to the highway patrol. The driver of the other car, a 1973 model coach, was Billy W. Boyd, 27, Star Route, Washburn. He was treated at South Barry County Hospital for apparently minor injuries and released, according to the patrol. The patrol reported the two autos sideswiped near the center line of the road, and the northbound car driven by Rose then went off the roadway, through a fence and hit a tree. Services for Mrs. Edna Rose were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Culver Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. Hugh Higgs officiated and burial was in the Kings Cemetery, near Washburn. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Rose was born July 8, 1900 in Barry County. She was a member of Mission Baptist Church, west of Washburn, and was the Republican Committeewoman for Ash Precinct of Barry County. In addition to her stepchildren and grandchildren, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Jane Miller, Crowley, Texas and Mrs. Charity Rebecca Marler, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Research Note: Oct. 24, 1974 hand written at top of news article. Edna Garrison married first Edmund G. Lytle. |
