Obit For Rev. John Vernon Rose

Text Rev. John Vernon Rose, 76, of Washburn, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013, at Freeman West in Joplin. He was born on March 24, 1937, in Cassville, son of Lennis Jefferson and Velma (Fletcher) Rose.

After high school, he enlisted in the Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict. On Jan. 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bettie Miller in Souenlovie, MS. They owned and operated an insulation company in both Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas. In 1993, they moved to Alzada, MT, where he started his career as a minister. In 2000, they moved back to Washburn, where he served as pastor at First Baptist Church in Washburn and Hart Baptist Church in Seneca.

Survivors include: his wife, Bettie, of Washburn; four sons of Pittsburg, of Carmel, IN; of Neosho, and of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Coyner, Thelma Martin, and Marilyn Roller; and three brothers, Lennis Rose, Harley Rose, and Howard Rose. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Vickie Rose; three sisters, Nancy Woodard, Jetta Rose and Wanda Clement; and three brothers, Lenear Rose, Lemoin Rose and Terry Rose.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Victory Baptist Church, Cassville, with Rev. Russell Bishop and Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Burial followed at the New Salem Cemetery, Seligman.
