Headline | 13-YEAR OLD BOY DROWNS IN CREEK With Other Boys Swimming During Lunch Hour While Bean Picking |
Text | Donald Ray Rose, 13-year old grandson of Mr. and Mrs. George Rose who lives southwest of Washburn about one mile, lost his life while in swimming in Flat Creek during the noon hour Thursday, Aug 19th at the Cline Hancock farm on Flat creek. Donald who was employed picking beans on the Hancock farm, went with other boys for a swim in the nearby creek. He got into deep water and soon drowned. He had infantile paralysis when small. For a while he was able to walk only by the aid of braces. Lately, however, he had not use the braces. His parents both died when Donald was but a small child. He was making his home with his grandparents. The Nelson Undertakers of Berryville came for the body and prepared it for burial. Donald is survived by two brothers, one of them now in the United States Navy, and one sister.
