Obit For Matilda Caroline (Smithson) Riddle
Headline BUTTERFIED WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN BED
Text Mrs. J. D. Riddle, 87 years old was found dead in bed Monday morning at her home at Butterfield. Heart disease was supposed to have caused her death. Mrs. Riddle had been in good health for one or her age, and Sunday had been visiting at the homes of her neighbors. She observed her eighty-seventh birthday April 14. She was evidently was up Sunday night as a light was burning when her son-in-law C.A. Payne, found her Monday morning.

Floyd Callaway, coroner was called from Monett, but as a doctor had signed the death certificate indicating death from natural causes, Mr. Callaway did not consider an inquest necessary.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Pleasant church Tuesday afternoon and burial made in the cemetery there.

Mrs. Riddle had lived in or near Butterfield most of her life. Her husband died about 10 or 12 years ago but nine children survive her. Of these, four live at Butterfield, three in Oklahoma and two in Canada.

She was the mother of John Riddle well known farmer who resided in Talbert Mill vicinity north of this city.

She is survived by the following children: James and George Riddle of Canada; Mrs. Rhoda Weaver of Atoka, Okla; Will Riddle of Ada, Okla; Mrs. Smith King, Mrs. Charles Payne and Marck Gurley of Purdy; Mrs. John Ennis of Wewoka Okla. and John Riddle of Cassville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at New Church. Rev. W.F. Goodnight and Rev. Ollie Ennis had charge of the services. Burial was made under direction of the Blankenship funeral service.
