Text | Joe Landon Rhea, 79, of Independence, formerly of Purdy, died at 8:58 p.m. November 17 at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Rhea was born May 12, 1922, in Purdy, the son of Chester and Zettie (May) Rhea. He was retired from Kansas City Power and Light Company after 30 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was married in March of 1946 in Columbus, Kansas and his wife survives. Additional survivors include 3 sons, two daughters, three brothers and two sisters, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Basil Rhea, Leo Rhea, Charles Rhea and Eugene Rhea; and two sisters, Imogene Henderson and Ava Leigh Brown. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, at Bennett-Wormington Chapel in Monett with Rev. Stephen Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow, November 20, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kansas City. |
