Text | William J. Reed who for the past forty-five years has lived in the locality about three miles northwest of Cassville, died at his home Friday, Dec. 17, of tuberculosis, following an illness of about two years. Mr. Reed was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, March 30,1854, being 61 years, 8 months and 18 days old. The family moved to Missouri and located in Barry County in what is now known as the Reed neighborhood northwest of Cassville in 1869. They located on a farm joining the place which Mr. Reed had owned and lived on since 1878. In 1878 he was married to Miss Sarah Stenson. To them three children, all of who are living were born. they are Mrs. Anna Hawk of Monett; William Reed, Jr. of near Cassville; and Mrs. Edith England, wife of Chas. England, of near Exeter. He was a brother of John Reed of this county. George of Corsicana and James of California. He also has two living sisters and two half sisters. William Reed was a good citizen. A man who was well thought of by everybody who knew him. He loved his home and and always stayed close to this farm. For sometime he had suffered from lung trouble but bore his suffering manfully. The funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. F. Goodnight of Purdy. The body was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cassville. |
