Text | Mrs. Susie Purselly, wife of Clay Purselly of Pleasant Hope, Polk county, died in Springfield, Sept. 18, from an operation for the removal of a tumor, at St. ___ Hospital, aged about 33 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Williams who reside in Cassville and Exeter. ____ old and highly respected citizens of this county. Mr. and Mrs. Purselly were married sometime last spring and were living a happy life at their new home, having been former sweethearts, they had drifted apart but got in correspondence and were married. Mrs. Purselly was a member of the Christian Church and was a true and zealous Christian ____ everybody were her friends, from expressions heard at the funeral. Rev. C. M. Smith held short services at the Christian Church at Exeter, Sunday afternoon, after which the remains were laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery at that place to await a beautiful resurrection on that great day. Research Note: According to our family data, Susie was born Sept. 20, 1876 (Family Bible lists her as Miny Susan). She was a school teacher and we have her picture. She married Clay Purselly March 14, 1909. She died Sept. 18, 1909 from "childbirth complications according to our family. The obit states from "surgery for removal of tumor!" Her marker is next to that of her parents at Maplewood cemetery, Exeter. It has "Susie Persselly" on it. There is an empty space between and we wondered if maybe her infant son also died and is buried there, but there is no marker. (Some family member said she had an infant son?) Both of Susie's parents, John A. and Hester Williams are listed on the double stone next to hers, however, Hester Ann was buried in TX where she died. We have a picture of her marker there. |
