Text | Chief Petty Officer Maurice Prier, 75, of Purdy, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at his daughter's home in Springfield.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1935, in Purdy, the son of Oscar C. Prier and Rilla (Andrews) Prier. He was a lifelong resident of Purdy, and his home church was Gunter Church near Butterfield. After enlisting in the United States Navy in 1954, he had an outstanding 20-year military career as an aviation electrician and also received many medals. He was honorably discharged in 1974, and he later worked for MFA transporting propane gas. Survivors include: two sons, Rex A. Prier, of Modesto, Calif., and David M. Prier, of Monett; two daughters, Deborah J. Casto, of Modesto, Calif., and Brenda K. Prier, of Springfield; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil E. Prier, and two sisters, Lucille Turner and Rowena Higgs. The funeral service was held today (Wednesday) at the White Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Nickle officiating. A full military honors service was provided by the United States Navy and Hobbs- Anderson American Legion Post #91 of Monett at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield. Memorials may be made to the Oxford Hospice in Springfield and entrusted to the White Funeral Home. |
