Headline | MRS. J.W. PHILLIPS DIES SATURDAY Mrs. J.W. Phillips Succumbs Saturday Following Attack Of Flu And Pneumonia |
Text | Mrs. J. W. Phillips, another old time and excellent character, residing near Jenkins, was the third victim of that section of the county to answer the call to a higher home. She too, was a victim of influenza and pneumonia. She passed on Saturday afternoon, at the age of 74 years following an illness extending over the past several days. She was the wife of J. W. Phillips, an old time, loveable character, who has resided in that community for the past quarter century. Her husband was dangerously sick at the time of her passing and his death was expected so strongly that the body of his beloved wife was held a few days, that a double funeral would be held, in the event of his passing on. His condition improved, however, and Mrs. Phillips remains were laid to rest in the Phillips cemetery, near their home, the first of this week. It is now thought that Mr. Phillips’ chances for recovery are better. Mrs. Phillips was a woman that had a wide acquaintance throughout that part of the county and those who knew her loved her deeply. An excellent neighbor, she was at all times ready and willing to respond to calls from the sick and afflicted. The Democrat sympathizes with the bereaved families of all these who have lost their loved ones in this horrible influenza epidemic that is sweeping the county.
