Text | Joseph Starwood "Kid" Park, son of James J. and the late Maggie Park died at the Springfield hospital Sunday Oct. 18, where he had been operated on several days previous for appendicitis. The immediate cause of his death was said to have been a blood clot going from the wound to the brain. He had been talking just a few moments before he passed away.
"Kid " Park as he was known to everyone was born near Washburn May 9, 1887, where he grew to manhood. He was liked by all who knew him. On June 4, 1917 he was married to Miss Alene Sparkman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sol Sparkman. He is survived by his widow, his aged father, J. J. Park, one brother G. L. Park of Washburn, three sisters, Mrs. J. L. Marcum of Joplin, Mrs. W. D. Roller of Idaho, and Mrs. G. C. Davis of Washburn. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home on Washburn Prairie, conducted by Rev. R. W. Patrick, pastor of the church, the presence of a very large crowd of relatives and friends and interment was made in the Washburn Prairie cemetery under the direction of the Horine-Culver funeral directors. A quartet composed of Mrs. John Ray, Mrs. B. D. Wilks, Chas. Willis and Clinton Blythe sang some beautiful and appropriated songs. The loss of a man for the type of "Kid" Park is a distinct loose to the community and the many friends of the family extend to them their deepest sympathy in their hour of bereavement.
