| Text | Mrs. Dorothy Jean (Rowe) Overton, 85, widow of the late Albert C. "Al" Overton, passed away at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 in Bartlesville. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 30 in the Memorial Park Cemetery with the pastor of the Disciples Christian Church as the officiant. Committal prayers and interment will be directed by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service. The family has requested memorials in Dorothy's name be made to the Disciples Christian Church, 5800 SE Douglas Lane, Bartlesville, Okla. 74006. Mrs. Overton will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of The Arnold Moore Funeral Residence where family and friends may call for their visitation until she is removed for final rites on Thursday morning. An Oklahoma native, Dorothy Jean Rowe was born August 8, 1923 at Yale to the late James E. Rowe and Ardath (Bulman) Rowe. She was united in marriage to Mr. Albert Cecil "Al" Overton on February 27, 1942 in Joplin, Missouri and subsequently made their home in Bartlesville following Al's discharge from the United States Army. Dorothy was an employee of the Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville from which she was retired. Mr. Overton preceded her in death on July 29, 2000. Dorothy will always be remembered for her wit, humor and love of learning new things. Mrs. Overton was very active in the Jane Phillips Sorority as well as other community organizations. She was a member of the Disciples Christian Church in Bartlesville. Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, her father; mother; and sister, Mrs. Helen Alexander preceded her in death. Research Note: This lady was married to a Barry County native--Albert C. Overton, brother of John Paul Overton--Albert & John's parents were Porter A. and Anna Laura (Zuspann) Overton. My dad went to school with these brothers near Exeter. I am posting this as it gives the date of death of her husband a Barry Co native.
