Text | Della L. Oakley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Oakley, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Elkins, one -half mile west of town, Wednesday, July 17. Death was due to a cancerous growth. Miss Della L. Oakley was born in Illinois, July 29, 1872. She was reared to early womanhood in that state. In early life she was very studious and she acquired a character cultured and refined that made her life one full of noble ideals and usefulness. She was a woman talented in the literary field of labor. For the past eleven years she was connected with the Fort Scott Banner, a religious paper, and edited the children's department. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters. They are: Oscar Oakley of Greenville, Ill., M. E. Oakley of Butterfield, Mrs. J. Boyd of Butterfield and Mrs. John Elkins of Cassville. Rev. J. Hibbs of Fort Scott, Kans., conducted the funeral services at the Sparks School house Saturday. The remains were laid to rest in the Sparks Cemetery. Research Note: Daughter of Francis M.
