Text | Burl P. Northcutt, one of Seligman’s prominent citizens and former postmaster and one of the town’s prominent merchants, passed away at his home there Friday Dec. 15, of flu after an illness of over ten days. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Northcutt and a brother of J.W. Northcutt of this city and Mrs. Clara Henbest of Baxter Springs, Kan., and was born and reared in Barry county and at one time served the county as treasurer being elected on the Democratic ticket. He also engaged in the mercantile business in Cassville and at the time of his death he was engaged in the mercantile business in Seligman. He also served as postmaster at Seligman. He was a Mason and Odd Fellow and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and three children, two sons, Clint of Tulsa, Okla., and Tom of Seligman, one daughter, Mrs. Lionel Hulsey of Tulsa, Okla. Funeral services were held at the church in Seligman Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. C.M. Smith and the remains laid to rest in the Seligman cemetery. Research Note: Death Cert. 39342 listed name as Burnell P. Northcutt. Stone has Burrel. Born May 29, 1875 in Washburn Died Dec. 14, 1928. He wife as Margaret Northcutt. His death certificate is indexed by the state as Burnel. It reads that he died on the 14th and not the 15th as the stone reads. His father is given as William Northcutt and his mother's name was Gowen and that he was a merchant. His parents were William Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Gowen) Northcutt. His wife was Margaret Miller. |
