Text | H. L. (Lee) McGruder, 61 died at his home in Wayne of a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday evening at 6:30. He had been complaining of a pain in the back of his head and neck and said, “ That’s what was the matter with President Roosevelt.” Mr. McGruder, well known handleplant and woodworking was born in Kentucky on July 14, 1884, and came to Barry County to engage in farming and later embark in the handle business in 1930. The business has been continued by his sons, Leroy and Charles McGruder, who with their mother survive together with four grandchildren. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church and son of the late S. P. and Minerva McGruder and was married to Rosa A. Brissell on June 22, 1910. Mr. McGruder had not been complaining about feeling badly. He had been taking great interest in his strawberries and after the picking was completed Saturday brought the pickers to Cassville for the show as a gesture of appreciation. He was a kindly man and was even ready to extend a helping hand. Funeral services were conducted at the Exeter Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 by the Rev. Charles Vanzandt. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery at Exeter by the Culver Funeral Service.
