Text - Outline | Dr. Marcus D. L. McCall, a well known physician of Barry, Newton, and McDonald Counties died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. P. Roseberry, in Exeter Thursday morning at 6 o'clock of heart failure. He was sitting in a chair when he passed away. For several months he had been in failing health and was held in close confinement. The deceased was 82 years and 9 days old and was born in McMinn County, Tenn., April 14, 1832. He was a son of John McCall, a native of Scotland, who came to the country in 1796. When a child his parents moved to Greene County of this state. He grew to manhood there and acquired a good education. In 1858 he went to Sebastian, Ark., but returned to Missouri at the beginning of the Civil War and enlisted in the Union Army. He was first a member of Company C 13th Missouri State Militia but later became a member of 11th Missouri Calvary Company C. In 1867 he came to Rocky Comfort, and began the practice of medicine. In 1878 he graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Renukuk, Ia., and returned to Southwest Missouri and practiced his profession different times at Rocky Comfort, Purdy, and Exeter. In 1854, he was married to Margaret Woods, deceased. To this union were born nine children of which six survive. They are Mrs. James McCary and Mrs. S. P. Roseberry of Exeter, Dr. Sherman McCall of Fairview, Dr. Otis McCall of Rocky Comfort and J. B. and I.C. McCall of Omaha, Neb. Dr. McCall was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and lived a devoted Christian life. He was one of the most highly respected of men and has a large acquaintance in this and adjoining counties. The funeral ceremony was held Saturday at the Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Shoal Creek, conducted by the pastor and Rev. C. M. Smith, and interment was made at the cemetery nearby. |
