Text | Mrs. M. E. McCall highly esteemed citizen of Barry and McDonald Counties since 1867, died at 8 o'clock Sunday morning, Feb. 8, 1920 at the home of her son, Dr. O. S. McCall, age 82 years, 10 months and 8 days. Death came after a lingering illness of several months and was due to old age. Mrs. McCall was widely known and a whole host of acquaintances throughout Barry and McDonald counties will feel the loss of a real friend. She was the mother of twelve children, five of whom survive her. Her husband, Dr. M. D. L. McCall, a practicing physician in the district for several years, died at his home in Exeter, April 14, 1914. Margaret Ellen Woods was born in Benton County, Ark. Mar. 31, 1837 and at the age of 6 years moved with her parents to Lawrence County, Mo. where she grew up to young womanhood. In 1855 she was married to Dr. M. D. L. McCall and 12 years later moved to Rocky Comfort, Mo. Since that time they have lived in Barry and McDonald Counties. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 15 and became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of which she remained a faithful member until death. She realized that death was near several weeks before the end came but she had so lived that she could view death in a calm and fearless manner. The entire program of the funeral and burial was carried out according to her instructions which she had given some time previous. Rev. E.W. Love of Joplin and Rev. Kaiser Gurley of Mt. Vernon conducted the funeral services at Concord Monday and the body was laid to rest in the Concord Cemetery. |
