Obit For Rex Warren Mooney
Headline -
Text Rex Warren Mooney, son of James H. and Ella Pease Mooney, was born December 9, 1921, near Washburn, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in Christian Healthcare North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, two months, and seven days.

On April 30, 1998, he was united in marriage to Opal Florence Ruble Turner, and together they shared the last five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Sponseller Mooney; four brothers, Lloyd "Dude", Dutch, Lawrence and Raymond Mooney; and two sisters, Lena Williams and Helen Cook.

Rex is survived by his wife, Opal, of the home; a son, Mike Mooney, of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Junior Mooney, of Seligman, Missouri; a sister, Fern Morris, of Fair Grove, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

He was born and raised in Barry County, Missouri, and graduated from Cassville High School. He served his country faithfully for twenty years, first in the United States Army and then in the Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He received several awards and citations for his years in the military including three bronze stars. After retiring from the Air Force, he moved to Lebanon and made his home. He attended barber school and then owned and operated Rex's Barber Shop in Lebanon for twenty-four years.

Rex had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greenhills Freewill Baptist Church, formerly the Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church. He had previously attended the North Five Freewill Baptist Church, and especially enjoyed gospel music. In his spare time he liked watching basketball games.

He was a very patriotic person and was proud of having served his country in the military. Rex will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and many friends. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and appreciate his patriotism.

Services will be held at 7 P.M. Friday, March 19, 2004, in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will be in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.

Research Note: Junior Mooney who is listed as Rex's brother was a son of Fern Mooney, and a nephew. He was adopted by James and Ella Mooney.

Another fact that should be added here is this: The man who is named, James Warren Mooney, who claims to be a son of Rex is not listed on the obit and has DNA that does not match the Simpson or Mooney DNA. He has a web site that distorts the truth about the Mooney and Simpson families. He portrays the family falsely as Indians with fabricated stories and made up names. Here is what he told me a few years ago: "My mother told me some time before her death I was the result of a rape. My mother married Walt Perkins after divorcing Rex. Later on after she divorced Walt Perkins she remarried Rex, this marriage lasted but a year, she then divorced Rex again and went on to marry Robert Henderson to whom she was married to upon her death."
