Text | Fanschon (Hess) Mitchell, age 88, of Seligman, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008, in her home. She was born June 6, 1920, in Arkinda, Arkansas, and was a daughter of Jake and Mary Ora (White) Hess. On May 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to Carl Webb Mitchell and to this union three children were born. Fanschon grew up and received her education in Seligman, where she graduated from high school. During World War II she worked for McDonald Douglas in Tulsa, Oklahoma. For twenty-six years she was employed for the Postal Service’s, from which she retired. Fanschon was a very active member of Seligman First Baptist Church, serving as pianist over fifty years and church clerk. She helped write “The First 100 Years of Seligman”. Her favorite past times were her crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and gardening, always keeping her hands busy. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Haskell and Dalton Hess and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Mitchell. Burial was in Seligman Cemetery. |
