Text | John Palmer Metcalf, 78, died at 5:15 p.m., Friday in Cardwell Memorial Hospital at Stella after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home in Granby earlier in the day. Mr. Metcalf was born May 1, 1889, in Kentucky and had lived in the Neosho area until moving to Granby in 1959. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Emma Metcalf; two daughters; a son, Raymond, of Route 4; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Long, Cassville; two brothers, Elisha and Elijah; 10 grandchildren and 19 great grand-children. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Freewill Baptist Church in Granby. The Rev. Robert Williams and the Rev. James McCully officiated. Burial was in the Rocky Comfort Cemetery under direction of the Shewmake Funeral Home of Granby. Research Note: John P. Metcalf was a brother of my grandmother. He was first married to Cora Ridenour also buried here. Second wife Emma died in 1991. |
