Text | James Nelson Mead, 83, of Golden, died at 11:40 a.m. February 17 at his home. Mr. Mead was born December 2, 1916, in Kensal, North Dakota, the son of Nickolas and Alice Nelson Mead. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired in 1967 as a detective sergeant with the Wichita Police Department in Wichita, Kansas, after 24 years of service and moved to Golden. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Golden, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Wichita Retired Officers Association, Golden Circle Shores, Bestor G. Brown Masonic Lodge 433 in Wichita and Pythagores Lodge 383 in Cassville. He married Helen M. Bridgman in Yuma, Arizona, on January 19, 1940. Survivors include three sons, of Spokane, Washington, of Seattle, Washington, and of Fargo, North Dakota; one brother, of Bakersfield, California; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Services were 2 p.m. today, February 21, at the Baptist Church in Golden with Rev. Bill Dudley officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home of Cassville. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Missouri. |
