Headline | Addah Matthews Dies Saturday At St. Vincent's |
Text | Mrs. Addah L. Matthews, 86, a well known Monett resident, died at 12:20 p. m. Saturday in St. Vincent's Hospital following a long illness. Born November 24, 1886, in Cassville, Mrs. Matthews had resided in Monett for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Monett First United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Monett Garden Club, the Monett Mothers Club, the GRE Club, the Barry County Historical Society, the Springfield chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and was a life member of the WSCS. Mrs. Matthews had authored several historical articles and books and wrote for area newspapers. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Betty Ann Helm of Evansville, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. M. L. Bandy of Monett, Mrs. Walter Wright of Route 1, Monett, and Mrs. James Hern of Jasper; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Monett First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Dayringer and Rev. Lyman Firestone officiating. Burial will be in the Monett IOOF Cemetery under direction of the Moss Funeral Home. Matthews, her husband, was born Aug 28, 1890 and died July 20, 1966 and was buried on July 22, 1966. Both are buried in IOOF in Monett. |
