| Text | James W. Marshall of near Purdy died Monday in a Springfield Hospital, following injuries sustained near Republic, last Wednesday when the truck in which he was riding turned over, pinning him under it for a time. In company with his daughter, Miss Etta, Mr. Marshall was moving to Springfield, and when near Republic, their truck turned over. In the wreck, Mr. Marshall was pinned under the tuck and remained in that position sometime, which aid was summoned from near–by homes, it being necessary to dig under the truck and place a jack under it before the heavy truck could be removed from off his head. He was rushed to Springfield, where the end came Monday. James Marshall was 79 years old and was born in Virginia. When 9 years of age, when his parents he came to this county, locating near Purdy, in Macedonia, where he has resided continually ever since, on the old Marshall homestead, where his father first located before the war. Fifty-five years ago Uncle Jim, as he was familiarly known, was married to Miss Mary Henderson, to which union nine children were born, six of whom survive the father and who are: Mrs. Floyd Inman of Cassville, Mrs. Ami Reynaud of Monett, Mrs. Chas. Long of Wheaton, Walter, Etta and Era of Springfield, and Mrs. Chas King of Nampa, Idaho. Uncle Jim was a consistent member of Baptist church and had been for years. He was well and favorably known over the county and had attended very old soldiers and settlers reunion held in Cassville. He was a life-long friend of the late Charles Ray, editor of the Democrat, many pleasant visits being enjoyed by them during their lifetime on Uncle Jim’s occasional visits to this city. He was a man that was known for his honesty, straight-forward dealings and his word was his bond. It was, indeed, a real pleasure to have the love and friendship of such a splendid man as the deceased. The remains were prepared for interment and conveyed to their old home and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Macedonia church, conducted by Revs. Davis and Earl Cox, interment being in the cemetery at that place. A large number of sorrowing relatives and friends gathered to pay their last love and respect to this fine citizen. The Democrat joins the many friends of the bereaved family in extending sympathy in their sad hour.
