Text | Mary J. Long, wife of James Long, passed away at her home near Jenkins on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 22 days. She was born in Barry county on Flat creek, on Aug. 29, 1858, and was a daughter of the late Obediah Hudson, one of the early settlers of the county. When a young woman she was married to John Ripley and to them were born two daughters. Mr. Ripley died many years ago. About 12 years ago she was married to Jas. Long, who with the two daughters, Mrs. Lena Redding of Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Ina Zinn of Sarcoxie, survive. At the age of 22 years she united with the Presbyterian church at Bentonville, Ark. Later she united with the Methodist church at Shell Knob, in which she retained her membership until her death. Besides her husband and daughters she leaves five sisters, one brother, six grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Mrs. Fred Wiley and interment made in the Hudson cemetery. |
