Text | Daniel B. (or Bum) Long, a well-known citizen of this vicinity, died at his home near Jane, Mo., Jan. 23, 1923, after an illness of only a few days. Mr. Long was born in Granger county, Tennessee, Oct. 4, 1856. He came to this country in 1882 and was married to Mollie Tichenor, Sept. 22, 1887. To this union were born six children, three boys and three girls, namely: Elbert, Ralph and Willard Long, and Mrs. C. E. Hauser, Mrs. G. D. Baker and Mrs. W.P. White. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Sarah Wolfenbarger of Colorado and one brother, Will Long, of Stella. He was converted to the faith which is in Christ Jesus in the year of 1910. He did not fear death. He said he was anxious and ready to go. Funeral services were held at the Rocky Comfort Baptist church Jan. 24th - by Rev. G. T. Kelley of Neosho and the remains were placed in the cemetery there to await the coming of our Lord. Research Note: The Rocky Cemetery listing has his year of birth as 1857, however, I have a photo of the tombstone and it shows his dates as Oct. 4, 1856 - Jan. 23, 1923. The stone also lists his wife M.C. (Mollie Tichenor) b. Sept. 15, 1868; died July 1, 1950. I copied this obit from an obit at the McDonald Co. Library (I think) and they did not have newspaper name or date on it. |
