Text | #1. Christian Long, 85 years old, died at the home of his son, Jas. Long near Exeter Saturday. He was one of the older residents of the county. A native of Tennessee, he moved to near Exeter when 16 years old and had lived continuously in the community for nearly 70 years. He is survived by four sons and three daughters. Funeral services were held at the home of James Long at 12:30 o'clock Monday afternoon and burial was in the Dice cemetery under direction of Horine-Culver. #2. The following obit is from a typewritten page that is believe to a copy of eulogy read at Christian's funeral: Christian Long was born Nov. 19, 1854, in East Tennessee. With his parents, he came to southwest Missouri when a young man. He spent the remainder of his life in this section of Missouri. He was united in marriage to Miss Rachel Greer, Feb. 3, 1876. To this union eight children were born, one having preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and seven children: Mrs. George Miller of Chandler, Okla., Mrs. S. D. Hall of Red Oak, Okla (should be Calif), Andrew Long of Afton, Okla., James Long of Exeter, Missouri, Henry Long of Stark City, Mo., Willie Long of Wyoming and Mrs. Fred Ridenour, of Washington; 43 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was converted at the age of 22 and united with the Big Springs Baptist Church. Later he moved his membership to the Prosperity church of Rocky Comfort, where he remained a member until his death. He departed this life Sept. 28, 1940, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 9 days. |
