Text | Rocky Comfort and vicinity lost one of its best citizens Sunday morning, August 12, when H. P. Lamberson died at the St. Johns hospital at Joplin following an operation for cancer from which he had been suffering for several weeks. Henry Phelps Lamberson was born March 23, 1855 at the old Lamberson Homestead one and a half miles southeast of Rocky Comfort. Here he grew to young manhood and on December 1, 1875 was married to Rachael M. Young. To this union were born seven children, Barton, Daisy, Clarence, Earnest, Maud, Nellie and Attie: all of them, except Maud are living. His first wife died June 24, 1893 and on September 29, 1894 he was married to Laura V. Chenoweth of Pineville. To this union were born three children: Maurice, Herbert, and Earl, all living. While living on the farm he served a number of years as surveyor and assessor of McDonald County and about 14 years ago he moved to Rocky Comfort where he engaged in the furniture and undertaking business. He was converted in the year of 1904 and became a member of the Presbyterian Church at Bethlehem, later transferring his membership to the Methodist church at Rocky Comfort of which he was a faithful member at death. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon by Rev. Ellis at the Baptist Church where a huge host of friends and relatives gathered to pay the last tribute of respect. Burial was made in the Rocky Comfort Cemetery. Research Note: Member of the Methodist church and services at the Baptist church? |
