Text David Max Long of rural Butterfield passed away September 19, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on February 1, 1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Charles Bernola and Zuma Kathryn (Weatherly) Long.

David moved to Barry County Missouri with his parents and family when he was three-years old. As a teenager he moved back to Hutchinson with his brother George. In 1961 he moved to Mesa, Arizona and on October 11, 1963, he was united in marriage to Phyllis E. Byrd. (Divorced in 1989). In 1963, shortly after his marriage to Phyllis, they moved to Los Angeles, California, where David worked for LA Paper Box and Board Mill. In 1973 they moved to Barry County Missouri where he remained for the rest of his life. David farmed, raised cattle, and was a truck driver for Tyson Foods, from which he retired.

He married Wanda K. Wolf on October 21, 2004, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Although they divorced in 2007, Wanda continued to look after him and was a special friend.

He is survived by his daughter Connie Mae and her husband John Corlett of Ash Grove, Missouri; two granddaughters, Amanda Jo and her husband Chase Higgs of Exeter, Missouri and Nicole Lynn and her husband Britten House of Butterfield, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Addi, and Beau Higgs. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; eight brothers, Jim, George, Bill, Lloyd, John, Harold "Buster", Gary, and Errol; and two sisters, Betty (Long) Bartel and Beverly (Long) Garber.

David attended school at Jenkins and Cassville. His favorite past-times were putting up hay and raising beef cattle. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Gunter Cemetery in Butterfield, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Jerry Nickle will conduct the services.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville, Missouri.
