Text | James E. Keet, on of Springfield's business men, died at 9 O'clock Saturday morning, after an illness of several months, during the last two months of which he had been confined to his bed. James Elijah Keet was born at Keetsville, now called Washburn, Barry County, Missouri, on Jan. 14, 1849. His mother was Miss Elizabeth P. West and is still living. In 1861, J. E. Keet came with his father to Springfield. On November 10, 1874, he was married to Miss Kate E. Holland, the daughter of John L. Holland, one of the city's leading bankers. Three children were born to them all of whom with their mother survive. Springfield Republican. The father of the deceased located at Keetsville many years ago. The name of the town was afterwards changed to Washburn. He kept a stock of general merchandise in the town and is remembered by the older citizens of the county. He afterwards moved to Springfield and became very prominent in business circles. He died in 1893. |
