Text | Judge Frederick C. Johnston, former Circuit Judge of this judicial district died at his home in Springfield May 29, following a lingering illness of a complication of troubles. He was one of the best known men in Lawrence, Newton, McDonald and Barry Counties. He was held in the very highest regard and had a large number of very intimate friends all over these counties who were deeply grieved to learn of his death. The Springfield Republican of May 30 gave the following account of his death: "Judge Johnston was born in Virginia and received his earlier education in that state. Later he attended the Cincinnati college at Cincinnati, Ohio. Later he graduated from the law department of Washington university with honors. Twenty-five years ago he engaged in the practice of law at Pierce City, and a short time afterward was elected prosecuting attorney. He filled the office with honor and was asked by the citizens to accept the office for a second term. He was elected again by a large majority. Several years later he was elected judge of the Twenty-fourth judicial circuit. He was united in 1889 to Miss Estella Blunk of Granby and to this union three children were born, two of whom are living. Besides the widow, Judge Johnston is survived by a son and a daughter; Ross Johnston, wireless operator on the U. S. W. Minnesota, and Mrs. (Mona) Harry Carson of this city, Malcolm Johnston, another son, died several months ago at Camp Meade, Md., where he was attached to the Twenty-third Engineering corps." |
