Obit For Mary "Charlene" (VanZandt) Jeffries

Text Mary "Charlene" (VanZandt) Jeffries, daughter of Reverend Charles VanZandt and Dollie Ireland VanZandt, was born August 17, 1919, at the family home in Exeter, Missouri. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior December 22, 1930, in a revival led by her father at the age of 11 years at the Exeter First Baptist Church and was baptized in Flat Creek January 4, 1931, by her father.

On September 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lisle L. Jeffries at her parent's home. The officiating minister was her father. Lisle and Charlene were privileged to be able to celebrate 50 years together before his death February 20, 1991. To this union they were blessed with two wonderful children, Dianne Shiveley and her husband, Bill, and Charles Van Jeffries and his wife, Yolanda, who survive. Grandchildren, Steve Shiveley and his wife, Cari, Greg Shiveley and his wife, Leslie, Melissa Kuhn, Julie Kolmer and her husband, Tom, Shane Bohns and his wife, Jenny and Rene Bohns. Also 10 great-grandchildren and a niece, Karen Faulkner and her husband, Brian.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Carroll T. VanZandt and his wife, Madge Hyde VanZandt, and a sister, Eulah VanZandt.

Charlene was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and served as the first secretary from 1964 until 2004. As church organist for 39 years and pianist for the Barry County Baptist Association for 54 years, a Sunday school teacher and active in W.M.U.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, in Emmanuel Baptist Church, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Danny Heupel and Pastor Bob Neeley conducted the services. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.

Contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Charlene.
