Text | Verne Lauriston Hutchens, 89, of Monett, died May 18 at his home. Mr. Hutchens was born December 8, 1912, in Monett, the son of Wayman Sylvester and Nora Elizabeth (Parker) Hutchens. He was a 1930 graduate of Monett High School and a 1932 graduate of Monett Junior College. He attended the University of Arkansas. He operated Fourth Street Garage in Monett and then owned and operated Binion Furniture in Monett from 1947 until retiring. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monett where he served in many leadership capacities. He was a member of Monett Masonic Lodge 129 AF&AM, Scottish Rite of Joplin, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple in Springfield, Barry County Shrine Club, and Barry County Trikes. He was a member of the Monett Chamber of Commerce, Monett Jaycees, Monett Lions Club, and Monett Kiwanis Club. He married Henrietta Ellen Binion on January 2, 1938, in Mt. Vernon. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, May 21, at Monett IOOF Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Clif Crockett officiating under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Masonic services will be 6:30 p.m. today, May 20, at the funeral home with Ray Johnson officiating with visitation to follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m. |
