| Text | Frank Hultgren died Wednesday, September 21, at the home of Carl Drake on King's
Prairie, following a brief illness. His death was caused by acute appendicitis
and peritonitis. About two years ago Mr. Hultgren sold his farm on King's Prairie and bought another farm near Verona, where he had lived since. Having to take his old farm back, he was there plowing when he suddenly took very ill and never rallied. Franklin F. Hultgren was born Oct. 7, 1877, in Barry county. At the time of his death he was 43 years 11 months and 14 days old. At the age of thirteen years he professed faith in Christ and united with the Methodist church. He was a consistent Christian gentleman, was faithful to his duty and a zealous religious worker. He was married to Miss Lillie Collar May 5, 1907. To them eight children were born - Beulah, Mabel, Velma, Haskell, Fern, Ester, Quentin, and Franklin, seven of whom survive him, one having died in infancy. He is also survived by his father and three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Peterson, Mrs. Hilda Dummit and Mrs. Jennie Shore. Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Kings Prairie Union church, conducted by Rev. Johnson, the Swedish District Superintendent and interment was made in the Spring River cemetery at Verona. Rev. Halmquist, of the Globe church, assisted in the service. In the death of Mr. Hultgren Barry county loses one of her best citizens. He was a public spirited man. During the World War he was always ready to do his bit cheerfully in any and all work done for his country and the boys in service. He worked for the upbuilding of the community in which he lived. Faithful in the church and Sunday School, ever ready to help advance the cause and the upbuilding of the Kingdom. He was trustee and class leader of the Kings Prairie M. E. church and his place will be hard to fill and words can never express the sorrow and regrets of his co-workers, but his influence remains to encourage us on to the end and he will be waiting to welcome us home. |
