Text | Elma May Batdorf Hughes, 93, of Monett, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, in Monett Health Care.
She was born Oct. 9, 1916, in Jewell, KS, daughter of Edgar H. and Ola O. (Cox) Wade. On June 16, 1956, in Kansas, she was united in marriage to Bud Batdorf, who preceded her in death. On April 1, 1988, in Shell Knob, she married Howell Hughes, who also preceded her in death. Others preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Thomas Wade, Carl Wade and William Cooper; and a granddaughter. Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Burnett, of Monett; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She moved from Kansas to Iowa at a young age. She received her education in Seymour, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. For several years, she resided in Lincoln, NE, before moving to Shell Knob, around 36 years ago. She had lived in Monett the last few years, where she volunteered as a pink lady for Cox Monett Hospital. Private family services will be held at a later date in Seymour, Iowa.
