Funeral Held At Community Building In Cassville Today, Thursday Afternoon
Interment In Oak Hill
Text - Outline Will Houston, old time and well known Barry County citizen, died suddenly, Saturday morning at home in Monett, following a heart attack.

Bill, as he was familiarly known, had been suffering for the past few weeks with his heart. Friday, before his passing, he and his good wife had gone to Bentonville, Ark., where he consulted a specialist. They stopped in Cassville on their on their return home and visited with friends, and he was in his usual jolly mood. He slept soundly that night until about 4:clock, when he complained of severe pain in his breast. Medical aid was immediately summoned but he passed on at about 8 o'clock that morning. His death was a complete shock to his many friends throughout the country. He was one of the county's best known men and had many friends in every part of the county. He had always taken a prominent part in all matters of interest to his county and was one of the county's biggest hearted men. He was a Democrat politician and served the county as Assessor, Sheriff and Collector and made a splendid official. He was exceeding popular and always pelled a heavy vote from the opposing political side. Always ready to aid those in distress, he never turned a deaf ear to appeals for aid and would have taken his shirt off his back to aid a friend in need. Bill Houston was a likeable character, one that made friends quickly and in many cases, it has been known he gave his last dollar and in some instances, obligated himself to aid some family which had been visited by death or lost their all in all by fire.

It was the writers good fortune to have known him long and well and we only knew him to esteem him more highly as the years passed by. Today we miss his kindly smile and friendly greeting; we long in vain to hear the ring of his jovial laughter and to feel again his genial presence.

The sunset speaks but feebly of the glories of another day. All is well.

He was a devoted husband. If there was ever a home filled with love and devotion, it was this one. Real pals in every sense of the word; unkind words being few and far between.

He was married in 1891 to Miss Minerva Tolby of Cassville. He is survived by his widow, two daughters: Mrs. J. R. Trolinger of Twin Fall, Idaho, and Mrs. Gladys Brown of Los Angeles, Calif., and a grandson, Houston Trolinger.

He also leaves two brothers, James Houston of Kansas City, and John Houston of White Rock, Utah. And five sisters, Mrs. Tony Hilton and Mrs. Lena Anderson of Los Angeles, Mrs. Maggie Purviance, Mrs. Laura O'Harrell and Mrs. Bland Jones of Kansas.

William Houston was the son of George and Rhonda Houston and was born in Tennessee in 1870. He was the oldest of twelve children. The family came to Barry county when William Houston was an infant and lived on a farm on Flat Creek near Cassville, where the parents died.

Music will be given by a quartet composed of Mrs. Glen Peal, Mrs. John Ray, Chas Willis and Clinton Blythe of Cassville, accompanied by Mrs. Troy Wilson at the piano. G. Peyton Gulick of Monett will play a violin solo, accompanied by Mrs. William Scott at the piano.

Mrs. And Mrs. S. H. Purviance of Madison, Kansas, and Mrs. E. A. King of Lone Elm, Kansas, arrived Monday to attend the funeral. Mrs. Purviance and Mrs. King are Mr. Houston?s sisters, Mrs. Enoch Trolinger and Lucian Houston of Tulsa, Okla., arrived Tuesday.

Impressive funeral services were conducted at the Community Building in Cassville Thursday afternoon by Rev. Patrick and Rev. Crabb. The funeral and arrangements are in charge of the Blankenship Funeral Service of Purdy, where Mr. Houston lived years ago.
