Text | Wayne R. Horner, 87, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Joplin. He was born on May 26, 1920, in Cassville, and was a son of William O. and Ethel (Henbest) Horner. He grew up in the Horner Community and graduated from Cassville High School in 1938. Following his graduation he moved to Glendale, Calif., and worked at Lockheed Aircraft before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served at the naval base in Norman, Okla., during World War II. Upon his return to Cassville he started milking and operated his dairy farm until his retirement. He was the sexton of the Horner Cemetery. He attended the First Baptist Church in Cassville. He married Fredalaene Cooper on Sept. 15, 1954, in Cassville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rex Horner, a renowned artist, one grandchild, one brother, Paul Horner, and two sisters, Lucille Horner Nash and Mary (Horner) Moody. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the White Funeral Home in Cassville, with Rev. John Duncan officiating. Military graveside services were conducted at Horner Cemetery in Cassville. Memorials may be made to His Children's Camp in Ridgley. |
