Text | Uncle Jack Holt, one of the best known residents of Lawrence County, died
early this morning at his home about five miles north of this city, as a
result of bronchitis, of which he had been a victim. The funeral will take
place at 10 a.m. tomorrow from Zion Church, the remains to be interred at
Grammer burial ground. Deceased was born in Benton Co., Tennessee, June 3, 1829 and was 73 years, 6 months, and 24 days of age. He came to Lawrence County to the year 1869 and where he has since resided, a grand, good law abiding citizen, beloved by his children and highly respected by all who knew him. He served as a gallant soldier for the Union during the Civil War and was one of the great Grand Army that is being summoned to the answer of the roll call in the great beyond. He is survived by five children, four sons, Hiram, John, George, and Will, the latter residing in Oklahoma and one daughter who is married and resides in Southern Texas. He had been a member of the C. P. Church for 60 years and his life was that of a true Christian. Deceased was a brother-in-law of the late G. M. Goodnight of this city. |
