Text | The death angle has again visited our neighborhood claiming for its visitor Mrs. Nancy Holmes, wife of R. J. Holmes. Mrs. Holmes had been ill for several months being confined to her house most of the time since November and to her bed for six weeks. She suffered from cancer of the liver. Every thing was done that loving hands could do and the best medical skill could suggest but death's hand could not be stayed and at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 1912, the weary spirit took its flight to her dear savior who she loved and worshiped.
Nancy Browning was born in Van Buren County, Arkansas, Sept 10, 1851. She came to Barry County at the age of 10 years and has lived here ever since. She was married to R. J. Holmes Oct. 19, 1871. To this union was born four children, three sons and one daughter. The sons are living and were at her bedside during her sickness and death. Mrs. Holmes was a member of the New Site Baptist Church. Her Christian influence will always have a lasting influence upon those who learned to know her. The funeral services were conducted at the residence by Rev. Luther Carlin, Friday at 2 o'clock p.m. after which the remains were laid to rest in the New Site Cemetery. Research Note: Nancy Browning was the daughter of Charles H. Browning and his wife Silvy Reeves. |
