Text | Mary Francis Higgs, age 103, of Pierce City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011, in St. John’s Hospital, Aurora, Missouri. She was born August 1, 1908, in Exeter, Missouri, the daughter of James Elmer and Lena Eliza (Davidson) Tucker. On August 5, 1928, in Stella, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Jess Higgs, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2001. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Grace Higgs at the age of 14; three sisters and four brothers. Surviving are one daughter, Helen Fisher and her husband, Floyd of Pierce City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Rex Black and wife, Rhonda and Dianna Ward and husband, Scott; three great grandchildren, Cherry Rexwinkle and husband, Jim, Jarrod Harrall and wife Kylie, and Jessica Shockley and husband Mat, two great-great grandchildren Landen Shockley and Sophia Rexwinkle. There are also three step-grandchildren, Ricky Fisher, Janie Moon and Carol Hays; four step-great grandchildren Rochelle, Amanda, April and Crystal and five step-great-great grandchildren Kole, Lane, Emily, Jamie and Clay. Mary grew up in Barry County, Missouri and received her education at Doss School. Most of her life was spent in the Exeter area, living in California a few years and spent the last sixteen years at Pierce City. She had been employed for Max Cooper Grocery and worked several years at Johnston Variety Store. She was a member of Pierce City First Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Reverend Rex Black and Reverend Justin Guffey will conduct the services. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Contributions may be made to Pierce City First Baptist Church in memory of Mary. |
