Text | Newton Snow Hickey son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hickey was born at Washburn, Missouri, Barry County, May 25, 1895. Passed away at Nampa, Idaho, February 2, 1937, at the age of forty-one years, eight months and seven days. He has lived in and near Washburn all of his life, just leaving here for Idaho last October. In 1916 he was united in marriage to Alice Laughlin. To this union two children were born: Anna Mae, who precede him in death four months ago, and one son Carl, who with his mother still survive. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Tom Hickey, and five brothers and two sisters, who are S.W. Hickey of Byron, Okla., Chandler of Hot Springs, New Mexico; Ray of Nampa, Idaho, Dennis of Menton Texas; Ned of Big Lake Texas; Mrs. Ann Northcutt of Jennings, Okla., and Mrs. Cleo Edens of Washburn, Mo., and other relatives and many friends. Early in life he was converted in a meeting conducted by Rev. Mitchell at Washburn. Snow was a favorite with all of the youngsters with whom he came in contract. He made many friends by his cheery smile and jovial disposition. I cannot say and will not say, that he is dead. He just away, with a cheery smiles and a wave of the hand he had wandered into an unknown land and left us dreaming. How very fair it needs must be, since he lingers there and you, oh you, will barest yearn for the old tip step and the glad return, think him loving on as dear in the lo of there as the love of here, this of him is the same. I say, he not dead, he is just away. The body was returned from Idaho, his old home at Washburn, where funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, February 7, 1937 by Charles Vanzandt. A very large assembly of his neighbors and friends gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to his memory. Burial in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery, with Koon Funeral Service in charge. |
