Text | Amanda Bell Carbaugh, the daughter of Joseph Anthony and Darcus Kelly Carbaugh, was born in Hays County, Texas March 26, 1869 and departed this life March 19, 1938, age 68 years, 11 months and 23 days. Her mother died when she was 4 years old and she was raised by Joseph Rowley. They came to Missouri when she was 10 years old. She was converted at an early age and joined the Baptist church July 24, 1921 in a meeting held by Bro. Brattin. She was married to Thomas Henry Hickey March 5, 1885. To this union 8 children were born, all of whom survive except Snow, who departed this life Feb. 3, 1937. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. Those remaining to mourn their loss are: Sevier of Sharon Kansas; Channy of the Soldiers’ Home in Los Angles: Cleo Edens of Washburn Mo. Ray of Nampa; Idaho; Anna Northcutt of Jennings Okla; Denny of Stafford Arizona; Ned of Odessa, Texas; several grandchildren, one brother, three sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Everet Edens. Funeral services were held at the Washburn church on Sunday afternoon, March 10, 1938 by Chas Vazandt. Burial in the Washburn Prairie cemetery under direction of the Koon Funeral Service. Mrs. Hickey was one of the county’s best citizens and many years of her life and been lived in this county. She was a kind and loving wife, neighbor and friend and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand in time of need. The Democrat joins many friends of the family in extending sympathy. |
