Text | Harold Dean Hendricks, 65, of Battlefield passed away in his home at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 23 after an extended illness. Rev. Hendricks was born September 20, 1933 in Lawrence County, the son His father was a long-time manager for the Tuberculosis Chest Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Dean graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1951, and attended Southwest Missouri State University for almost four years. He also served in the United States Air Force. Dean began ministering in 1976, and pastored churches in Dade, Lawrence, and Greene Counties for 17 years. During the past five years he worked full time with the Missouri Baptist Children's Home. He coordinated the reunions held every two years for the Mt. Vernon High School Alumni Association, and was secretary of the Mt. Vernon High School Scholastic Foundation. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; one son, Reese Hendricks of Springfield; one daughter, Holly Dugan of Denton, Texas; his mother, Ruth Hendricks of Republic; one sister, Lucille Mullins of Springfield; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Ann, in 1971, and his father, Cecil, in 1969. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27 at South Haven Baptist Church in Springfield, with the Revs. Cap Lovell and Paul Swadley officiating. Burial will be at Kerr Cemetery southeast of Mt. Vernon under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be tomorrow, May 26, from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home, Hospice of Southwest Missouri, or the Alumni Association of Mt. Vernon High School. |
