Text | Herbert "Herb" Lee Henderson, 83, of Monett, died at 4:45 p.m. yesterday,
May 23, at his home following a sudden illness. Mr. Henderson was born November 9, 1918, in Purdy the son of Troy and Pauline Opalka Henderson. He retired November 30, 1992, from The Monett Times, where he had been a typesetter for 40 years. He worked at the Lawrence County Record for one year before being employed at The Times, and had started as a typesetter for the Freewill Baptist Gem magazine in Monett in the late 1930s. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Monett, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church board, a member of Monett Senior Citizens Center, and secretary of the Bethel Cemetery Board. He married Virginia Jenkins on November 9, 1941, and she preceded him in death July 24, 1992. He married Phyllis Malan Mulvaney on September 25, 1993, in Monett. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Bennett-Wormington Chapel in Monett with Rev. Michael Irvine and Rev. Aaron Weibel officiating. Burial will be in Monett IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, May 25, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church to Bethel Cemetery. |
