Text | J. G. Henderson, 89, a prominent resident of the Purdy area, died at 9:50 a.m. yesterday in the Cassville Hospital following a short illness.
Mr. Henderson was born near Purdy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Henderson, and had lived there all his life. He was retired farmer and stockman and for a number of years was a music teacher. He had composed and written a number of songs for the Stamps and Baxter Music Company. A member of the Gunter Methodist Church, Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter. Survivors include four sons, Erval Henderson and Clyde Henderson both of Purdy, Otis Henderson of Exeter and Evan Henderson of Fairview; two daughters, Mrs. Archie Gardiner of Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Leo Brown of Valley Center, Kans.; one brother, Rev. Calvin Henderson of Cassville; one sister, Mrs. Chris Edwards of Van Nuys, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Arnhart Church with Rev. Wayne Hamilton, Rev. Winford Davis and Rev. Alvin Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Arnhart Cemetery under the direction of Bennett and Wormington Funeral Home. Research Note: Joseph Greenberry Henderson died Mar. 16, 1965. He was married to Martha E. Robinson. He was a son of Francis Marion and Martha Emeline (Fly) Henderson. |
