| Text | Mary Helen Hawkins, 97, of Monett, died at 12:05 a.m. today, April 20, at Cox Medical Center North in Springfield following a long illness. Mrs. Hawkins was born March 28, 1904, in Monett, the daughter of Ben and Sarah (Gilbert) Williams. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Monett Chapter 190 Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Esther Chapter 202 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hobbs-Anderson Post 91 Monett American Legion Auxiliary, and GRE Club, all of Monett. She married Thomas Leo Hawkins, and he preceded her in death January 29, 1972. Survivors include one son, of Colorado; seven grandchildren, eight grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vera Calton. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Monett IOOF Cemetery with Rev. Clif Crockett officiating under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. |
