Text | Ted Hawk, well known farmer who resided northwest of Fairview committed suicide shortly after 7 o'clock Saturday morning by shooting himself in the head with a double barrel shotgun. Hawk drove his car on a country road to near the James Williams farm home and stopped just before pulling out on highway 86. Williams reported that he heard an explosions soon after the car stopped, but as it was an old model car he presumed that the motor had back fired. About 9 o'clock two farm workers, Ernie Pushmach and Alvin Renkoski, both of Pierce City, discovered the dead man in his car. An investigation was made by Corley Thompson, Jr., Corner of Newton County. He reported that Hawk had either place the muzzle of the gun in his mouth or beneath his chin and fired both barrels. Hawk left a not to his wife, but the contents were not made public. In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son and one daughter. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Mound Chapel Church, north of Fairview, by Rev. Sherman Erickson. Burial was made in the Mound Chapel Cemetery where his father, Charley Hawk was buried a few months ago. |
