Text | Geneva Mae Harris, 77, Wheaton, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at the home of her daughter in Wheaton. She was born March 5, 1933, in Ridgley, the daughter of Oras Lee and Lilly Faye (Young) Birkes. She was united in marriage on Oct. 6, 1950, to Johnnie Harris, who survives. Additional survivors include: one son, of Wheaton; two daughters, of Wheaton, and of Springfield; two brothers, Charles Birkes, of Las Molinas, Calif., and Stephen Birkes, of Buckner; one sister, Shirley Weems, of Cassville; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Retha Littlejohn and Freda Hayden. She grew up and attended elementary school in Ridgley and graduated from Wheaton High School. Johnnie and Geneva moved to Independence in 1950, where she worked as a telephone operator for AT&T. In 1966, they moved their family to California and later back to Missouri. In 1977, they opened up John's Stop and Shop and Geneva's Village Place both in Wheaton. She was also a beauty consultant for Mary Kay for 17 years. She was a member of Wheaton Baptist Church and Unity of the Hills in Branson. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, in Wheaton Southern Baptist Church. Cremation arrangements were under direction of McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. |
