Text - Outline | James Harper was born in Sandusky, Ohio, February,17, 1858. Died Dec. 24, 1915, age 56 years, 10 months and 7 days. He moved with his parents to Delaware County, Iowa. Became a Christian in the spring in 1891 and united with the M. E. Church. He was married to Miss Lean Becker, September 10th, 1891. To this union were born three children: Harold James, Royal Clarence and Ethel Lena. All are still at home with their mother. He came with his family to Barry County in 1895 and located near Butterfield where he resided at the time of his death. He was a true Christian, a loving husband, a kind father, a friend to all, a neighbor to those in need. He was the pioneer canner and fruit grower of this part of the county, starting the first cannery in the county about 1902. He leaves a wife, three children, one brother, A. P. Harper, of near Butterfield, one sister, Ella Richmond of Rathdrum, Idaho, one aunt, Mrs. Epsie Griggs, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and a host of friends. His death was very unexpected. He had been suffering from heart and stomach trouble for some time but seemed to be getting better till one day before he died. He suffered all day but got easier during the night. At five o'clock in the morning God sent His messenger for him to come home. He hastened to obey the summons not even stopping to say goodbye and died without a struggle. Just stopped breathing and went home to God. |
