Text | William Sherman Hankins was born August 26, 1865; passed from this life January 24, 1938, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 28 days. He was the son of Thomas R. and Martha A. Hankins. He and Annie Black were united in marriage in 1886. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Blanche Cooper, Marshall Hankins and Truman Hankins, of Cassville, all of whom survive him. Mr. Hankins was born and reared in this county, most of his life being spent in the Oak Ridge Community. For sixteen years he was secretary Treasurer of the Federal Land Bank of St. Louis, for Barry County. He had served as a member on the school board for twenty five years, and was a commissioner of the Flat Creek Special Road District for nine years. He was a member of the re-organized Church of Latter Day Saints, for 45 years, during which time he lived a consistent Christian life. Besides his immediate family and a host of friends, he leaves to mourn his passing a number of grandchildren, one great grandchild and one brother Marshall Hankins of Quanah Texas, two half-brothers, Horace Hankins of Tulsa, OK, Collie Hankins of Kansas City, MO and two half-sisters, Mrs. Alta Bush and Mrs. Nell Bush both of Cassville.
